Working in Chelsea

Architecture in one of London's most demanding planning environments

Chelsea sits within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea — one of the most architecturally and historically significant areas in London, and one of the most demanding planning environments in which to work. Conservation areas, listed buildings, and exacting design standards mean that successful projects in Chelsea require both genuine design quality and thorough planning expertise.

Rosace has worked across Chelsea and the surrounding area, developing an intimate knowledge of the local character — the scale of the streets, the material palettes, the relationship between original townhouse fabric and contemporary addition. This knowledge informs every project we take on here.

Featured Project

Chelsea Townhouse

A rear extension and whole-house interior refurbishment to a Victorian townhouse in Chelsea SW3. The extension created a new kitchen-dining room at lower-ground level, linking to the garden through a fully glazed rear wall. Above, the principal floors were refurbished with panelled walls, bespoke joinery, and curated lighting.

Common Questions

Architecture in Chelsea — answered

Do extensions in Chelsea require planning permission? +
Chelsea falls within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC), which has strict planning policies. Many properties in Chelsea are in conservation areas or are listed buildings, meaning extensions often require full planning permission rather than permitted development. Rosace has experience working within RBKC's planning framework.
What types of projects does Rosace undertake in Chelsea? +
