Architects · Wandsworth
Wandsworth is one of London's biggest boroughs, and it is packed with Victorian terraces that are full of potential. From the tree-lined streets around Wandsworth Common to the buzzing regeneration zones in Battersea, every neighbourhood has its own feel - and its own set of opportunities. We design and build extensions, loft conversions and full renovations that make the most of what is already there.

What We Do in Wandsworth
Most of Wandsworth is made up of Victorian and Edwardian terraces - the kind of houses that were built with small kitchens and dark rear rooms. A well-designed rear extension can completely transform the ground floor, opening it up into the kind of light, open-plan space that actually works for how families live today. Side return extensions are especially popular along the terraced streets of Balham, Tooting and Earlsfield, where that narrow alley down the side of the house is just wasted space waiting to be used.
Loft conversions are another natural fit. The pitched roofs on Wandsworth terraces lend themselves to dormer conversions - and because a rear dormer often falls under permitted development, you can add a whole extra bedroom and bathroom without needing planning permission. For homes that need more headroom or a bigger footprint upstairs, mansard conversions are also an option.
We handle architecture and construction under one contract. One team from the first sketch through to the finished build, no separate builder to find. You can see a breakdown of what projects typically cost in our guide to house extension costs in London.
Local Knowledge
Wandsworth Council has a reputation for being one of the more supportive councils in London when it comes to well-designed residential extensions. That does not mean anything goes, but it does mean that sensible proposals tend to move through the system without unnecessary friction. The council understands that extending and improving existing homes is a good thing for the borough, and their planning team generally reflects that.
That said, there are areas where you need to be more careful. Wandsworth Common, St John's Hill and parts of Putney sit within conservation areas, where permitted development rights can be restricted and the council pays closer attention to materials, scale and how new work relates to the existing streetscape. Some streets also have Article 4 directions that remove PD rights altogether - meaning even a small rear extension could need a full application.
The housing across the borough is varied. Around Wandsworth Town and Earlsfield you will find classic Victorian terraces. Balham and Tooting have a mix of terraces and larger Edwardian semis. Battersea ranges from mansion blocks near the park to the massive regeneration around Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station. Southfields and Putney have their own distinct character too. Each pocket of the borough brings different constraints and different possibilities.
We are an architecture and construction studio. One team handles design, planning and building - all under one roof. No separate contractor to source, no gaps between what gets drawn and what gets built.
